Lavatrax Tenerife MTB started out in 2006. After a short break to Tenerife to visit family and having time to reflect on work and life in the UK I decided that enough was enough and that it was time to do something that I had long dreamt of and that would also give me more time with my family.

So after seeing a need in the market for a more flexible approach to mountain bike holidays we decided to make the break and start Lavatrax. The idea was that there must be lots of enthusiastic riders out there who would love to ride somewhere different, somewhere sunny, but just cannot justify the cost or time required for a solely mountain biking holiday. So we decided to offer a flexible approach where the whole family could benefit from a break in the sun whilst the biker of the family could still get to ride great trails in a new and different environment. The location had to be one that offered year round good weather and didn't have to wait for the ski season to end and the snow to melt before the bikers could return.

We looked at lots of different locations before coming back to the one right under our noses, the place that had kick started the whole process......Tenerife! We chose Tenerife as the ideal destination, with its temperate climate and the highest peak in Spain at its centre, good transport links and an established tourist industry, it ticked all of the boxes.
Whilst Lavatrax is a small business, we feel that this allows us to adapt to the needs of an ever changing marketplace. We are always ready to listen to your suggestions as to how we can improve our service to you through changing the way we do things or adding new services to our business. Believe it or not, the summer months are our "quiet time" where we get a chance to take a little rest and also hopefully scout a few new trails ready for the upcoming winter mountain bike season here in Tenerife.

Darran (Daz) Collins - Owner / Guide / Driver / Mechanic and General Dogsbody

Daz has been riding (and breaking) bikes for as long as he can remember, there have been very few if any times where he hasn't had a bike of some sort on hand. He picked up his first "proper" mountain bike back in 1986 and was bitten by the bug pretty much immediately.

Daz is a MIAS qualified Mountain Bike Leader gaining the MIAS Level 2 qualification with MBI in early 2006, adding to this a renewed first aid certificate to ensure that he is prepared for all eventualities.

Daz has over 20 years mountain biking experience, with lots of time spent riding his local Peak District trails, along with frequent trips to ride in the Lake District and into Wales. Daz is a big fan of riding natural trails, enjoying the challenge that mother nature places in front of your wheels.

Top this off with long long descents and some perfect weather and you couldn't ask for much more. Tenerife really has something for every rider, XC / Trail and Downhill, you just need to try it once and you'll be as hooked as I am!"

Tine Filiplic - DH & Freeride Guide (Winter Season)

Tine first joined us for the winter 2010/11 season as a dedicated DH & Freeride guide. He was fresh from time spent riding in Canada and America. After a sucessful first season with us, Tine left at the end of April 2011 to enjoy the summer season in Germany and back home in Slovenia.

For winter 2011/12 Tine re-joined us but this time expanding into the AM / Enduro riding that we offer and finding out that there is more to MTB than just riding downhill.

Tine is a great rider brings many other skills to the team, including professional fridge emptying and top quality early morning rants!
