Lava Trax was born in 2006. After a short break to Tenerife to visit family and having time to reflect on work and life in the UK I decided that enough was enough and that it was time to do something that I had long dreamt of and that would also give me more time with my family.

So after seeing a need in the market for a more flexible approach to mountain bike holidays we decided to make the break and start Lava Trax. The idea was that there must be lots of enthusiastic riders out there who would love to ride somewhere different, somewhere sunny, but just cannot justify the cost or time required for a solely mountain biking holiday. So we decided to offer a flexible approach where the whole family could benefit from a break in the sun whilst the biker of the family could still get to ride great trails in a new and different environment. The location had to be one that offered year round good weather and didn't have to wait for the ski season to end and the snow to melt before the bikers could return.

We looked at lots of different locations before coming back to the one right under our noses, the place that had kick started the whole process......Tenerife! We chose Tenerife as the ideal destination, with its temperate climate and the highest peak in Spain at its centre, good transport links and an established tourist industry, it ticked all of the boxes.

Lava Trax is owned and run by Darran Collins and partner Janette. Darran is a MIAS qualified Mountain Bike Leader and has been riding mountain bikes in the Yorkshire Dales, the Peaks and the Lake District for around 20 years.

"My aim is to show all of my customers the best of Tenerife, picking the best trails and constantly evaluating new trails to keep things fresh. But all with safety foremost in my mind, nobody wants to be going home in an air ambulance! All of the trails I have put together are risk assessed and graded. Finally, I keep group numbers small with a maximum ratio of 5 guests to 1 leader"
