A scenic
ride mostly on smooth double tracks. This ride starts from the town
of Vilaflor, officially the highest town in Spain. It then climbs
on tarmac roads for around 4km to the main trailhead. The route then
follows undulating double track to the Madre del Agua camp site, where
we take a short break. In the summer time, it is possible to walk
from here to the Passaje Lunar, but as the walk takes around 1.5 to
2 hours this is dependant on the length of the day light hours remaining
for the return leg to Vilaflor. The return leg retraces our trail
past La Florida where we branch off along another smooth double track
and a gradual descent to Vilafor. The final 2km of the descent being
on road to the cafe where we will stop for post ride tapas and drinks.

This
route starts with a warm up on tarmac where we gain 95% of the altitude
that is made in this ride. The climb is steady rather than gut wrenching
and is well worth it for the descents which follow off road. The trail
takes us along lose gravel roads through changing landscapes and eventually
into the area known as the Arenas Negras which consists of black sands
and hills which are such a contrast to all around, we then move back
through forests and with a short final climb back to the start point.

This
is our newest route, following a short tarmac warm up where we gain
about 100m on height, we head off onto fast flowing double tracks
and head down hill. After a while we catch the gem of this trail which
is a stunning section of technical rocky singletrack which tests our
skills and concentration right up to our rest point at Boca del Paso
where we take in the amazing views for a while. From there we continue
for a short while on more singletracks before hitting tarmac again
and heading steeply down hill for a few km's before we pick up some
more singletrack which takes us to the sea front at La Caleta. From
here we take a cruise along the promenade and a well earned drink
before picking up the minibus back.
La Esperanza Tour

A figure
of 8 route high in the La Esperanza forest. The route starts out from
Las Raices before climbing on the road for about 6km to Las Lagunetas
where we pick up jeep tracks which generally follow the contours of
the hillside giving fantastic views out towards Santa Cruz and if
visibility is good, out to sea to Gran Canaria. On reaching the road
we take a short break before tackling the singletrack return to Las
Lagunetas. This starts out quite rocky with some awkward gulleys and
large rocks with require a little bike carrying from time to time,
but this soon turns into a beautiful fast flowing trail. On reaching
Las Lagunetas, we again cross the public road to pick up some stunning
flowing single track which is guaranteed to leave you with a smile
on your face. After a final few Km's on jeep track and shorter sections
of single track, we make it back to our start point at Las Raices
where we stop for coffee and cakes before taking the minibus back
to the south.
For the
shorter 30km ride, we start at the same point but climb for only a
short distance on the road before taking to the forest roads to claim
some altitude. This eventually brings us backto the road where we
enjoy some of the fine singletracks dropping down the hillside to
the east side of the island before we take on a stiff climb back to
the main road. A further short climb brings us to Las Lagunetas where
we take a short break before taking the last 30 to 40 minute descent
on single track back to the start point at Las Raices.
The Long Way Down Tour
Distance
- 72km
Difficulty

Level - 3
Time
- 4 to 6hrs
Aproximate

This
is a route of epic proportions. We meet up in the town of Los Cristianos
where we take the public bus service (TITSA) up to the Teleferico
(Cable Car) station at the base of Mt. Teide. From here we warm up
on the tarmac roads for about 20 minutes before pausing for coffee
prior to the tarmac climb to the observatory at Izana. Here we take
to the gravel roads and commence the gradual descent to the coast.
The route flows quickly through lava fields and forests taking in
some single track sections before hitting the tarmac again at the
hillside vilage of Arico. We then follow the road which hugs the contours
to pick up the final off road descent to El Medano where we stop for
a well deserved drink before heading back to Los Cristianos in the
minibus.
The Long Way Down PLUS
Distance
- 68km
Difficulty
- 4+
Fitness
Level - 4
Time
- 5 to 6.5hrs
Aproximate
transfer time from south cost resorts - 1.5hrs
This
is much the same route as the standard Long Way Down tour but with
extended sections of singletrail which just seems to go on and on,
replacing some of the fireroad which the route normally takes. The
singletrail is littered with tight, testing switchbacks, gulleys and
rocks. A real skill and fitness tester.
Santiago del Teide
Loop
Distance
23km

Level - 3.5
Time
- 3 to 4.5 hours
Aproximate

A scenic
ride on double track with some lose and rocky surfaces. This ride
again starts with a fairly tough road climb for about 4km. The track
then turns into double track with some very lose sections of sand,
gravel and small rocks. After continuing to climb we skirt around
the edge of a large expanse of black lava field before entering the
pine forest when we loop around before returning the way that we came.
The return leg offers some faily quick descents along the loose tracks
and demand good concentration to maintain your line. After loading
the bikes back onto the van we return to Santiago del Teide for refreshments.
Playing with Aeroplanes

Time

Aproximate
transfer time from south coast resorts - 15 mins
A short
"play time" ride from the coastal resort of El Medano. Starting
from the town, we climb along loose single track and bed rock up towards
the TF-1 motorway before skirting alongside the motorway for a couple
of km. We then start to make our way back down towards the coast initially
along dusty single track, before this turns into a number of moon
like solid rock ridges where we take varying lines down into the valley
before skirting around the airport perimeter. Then we drop into one
of the many burancos and follow the lines carved out of the rock over
the centuries by rain water before finally reaching the beach where
we stop at the Flashpoint
for refreshments. This ride requires some riding experience as there
are several short but steep descents and drop off's of up to 30cm.

Camino Aldea Blanca
Distance
- 12km

Level - 3
Time
- 1.5 to 2hrs
Aproximate
transfer time from south cost resorts - 15 Mins
A short
blast along one of the ancient caminos (old path or road) from the
town of San Miguel down to the village of Aldea Blanca. the route
starts on the road with a climb from just above the TF-1 along the
TF65 to San Miguel, this is a busy road, but has a good sized shoulder
giving reasonable separation from the traffic. From here we turn off
onto small local roads for a few minutes before starting the frenetic
technical descent back down the hill to Aldea Blanca, the trail is
mostly on rocky single track, mostly paved almost like very rough
cobble stones, but with sections of lava and large drops where the
original path has disappeared. A full suspension bike is necessary
for this route.
Palm Mar Play Time
Distance
- 10km +
Difficulty
- 2+
Fitness
Level - 2
Time
- 1 to 3hrs
Aproximate
transfer time from south cost resorts - 15 Mins
Taking
in the numerous single tracks between the coastal resort of Palm Mar
and the Punta Rasca light house, this route offers a perfect spot
for a little relaxed sea level riding. The route can be made as short
or as long as you like using the network of trails in this area. Technically,
it can be kept simple or some more demanding rocky singletrack can
be thrown into the mix along with some small climbs and rocky descents.
A real gem on the doorstep of most of the Southern resorts. Finishing
with a visit to one of the local cafès for post ride chat and
refreshments.
